Family event

On November 7th from 4 p.m. until 7.30 p.m. there is going to be a family event in Mäetaguse School. There is going to be an autumn fair, games for the whole family, workshops such as fire-fighting sport, music, robotics, making of Christmas cards.  Everyone is welcome to sell his or her produce at the fair but you they to register first. Come and have fun with us!

Study skills competition

On 16th November our team from year 6 took part in a study skills competition that was held in Jõhvi Basic School. This year our students did not get an award-winning place, but never the less, it was a positive and challenging experience for our participants, which they enjoyed very much. The competition consisted of different workshops or rooms, namely maths, natural science, computer skills. There was also a room with various tasks, which proved to be the most interesting one; in there the students could show their skills in knitting, folding as well as in English.

Alutaguse County recognises our teachers

Alutaguse County gave recognition to its outstanding educational workers among who there were four members of Mäetaguse school family.

Alutaguse County thanked our music teacher Anu Kaljusaar, who has helped to build our school’s reputation on the county as well as on the national level;

social pedagogue Marina Versh-Gluškova, who is a helpful and trustworthy colleague, a reliable person who puts her heart into her work;

PE teacher Kaja Peet, who promotes sport, builds collective dance culture and effectively organises extra-curricular work;

English Game Day

There was an English Game Day on the 15th October in Mäetaguse. The participants were year 6 students from the three Alutaguse schools – Illuka School, Mäetaguse Basic School and Iisaku Gymnasium. The Game Day started with icebreakers, followed by finding team mates and then playing Alutaguse Jeopardy. In the Jeopardy, students had to show their knowledge on their home county, English language and pop-culture.

World Teachers’ Day

n the 4th October, the power in Mäetaguse Basic School is given to the students because on the 5th of October it is World Teachers’ Day. Teachers can be creative doing handicraft and later performing to the school family. Lessons are shorter and teachers are replaced by our older students and by some parents. 

Sports week

From September 23 - 29 it was a national sports week and naturally, our school offered a number of sporty activities for our students as well as for teachers. Monday was orienteering day.  Tuesday was for throwing axes and shooting arrows towards the bullseye. On Wednesday there was a relay competition in Toila where many of our students competed. Throughout the week teachers and students alike were urged to move more and walk around the school house. The week ended with a small volleyball tournament between students, teachers and parents.

 

The European Day of Languages.

On the 26th and 27th of September we celebrated the European cultures and languages by singing the traditional song  (Are you sleeping) Brother John. In Estonian the song can be translated as Blacksmith boys whereas in French it is Frère Jacques, in Finnish Jaakko kulta and so on. Every class introduced one European language and sang the well known song in their new language.
