From March 10th to March 14th, 2025, Mäetaguse Basic School celebrated Estonian Language Week.
On Tuesday and Thursday, a Jeopardy-style quiz competition was held for students in grades 5-9.
The winners of the quiz for grades 5-7 were Elisabeth, Evert-Kris, and Mihkel, while the best participants from grades 8-9 were Hanna-Marleen, Sander, and Harry Gregor. Thank you to all participants and congratulations to the winners!
On Friday, our school was visited by writer Heli Künnapas, who introduced her works.
On March 14th, students from grades 1 to 3 gathered in the school library to celebrate Mother Tongue Day.
They talked about the importance and beauty of their native language.
Students shared their own creative stories, and fun brain-teasing exercises were solved.

On March 12th, Mäetaguse Basic School hosted the Alutaguse Municipality recitation contest titled "Nature Around Us," which brought together students from three local schools.
Students from grades 1 and 2 recited poems, while students from grades 3 and 4 presented prose.
In their respective age groups, the following students achieved first place: Juhan Moisa, Eliine Lehtsaar, Kirke Karja, and Lilia Popova.
Special awards were given to: Loore Lehtsaar, Inge Vaarman, Isabella Kivikalju, and Antti Pae.
We Celebrated International 112 Day
On February 11th, our school celebrated International 112 Day, which aims to raise awareness about the importance of the emergency number.
On this day, representatives from the Estonian Red Cross, the Environmental Board, and the Rescue Board visited our school. They shared valuable information and provided guidance on how to act in emergency situations.
On the 7th of November at 9 o'clock a concert chat room will be hosted by the Mäetaguse basic shool. Kaarin Aamer and Jaanus Põlder are expected to perform on it.
Fermi Energia AS has offered schools free lectures on nuclear energy topics that support the 8th-12th grade curriculum of a general education school. Presentations by practicing specialists in various fields enrich the daily work and offer variety to students' school lessons - it's nice when an expert from outside the school introduces the topic being studied.

On the 19th of October during long lesson breaks our school family was invited to the assembly hall to dance. It was very intensive, fun and enjoyable to spend a break actively with friends and dance together!
On October 3, the school concert "Mandolin Madness" was held at our school. Three young men - Kristjan Kuusmik, Sten Aamer and Tanel Sakrits - they are united by the band name "Mando Trio". We heard intense folk songs and instrumental music, as well as folklore from Alutaguse municipality. The concert ended with a fun joint dance of the barefoot waltz.
